MEETI training programmes have been designed for those who are interested in the management of the minerals and energy industries, and wish to enhance their knowledge of policy management and implementation in the minerals and energy sectors.
Course participants are encouraged to develop a holistic approach towards the minerals and energy sectors, as well as thorough awareness of the sectors position in the national economy and the complexity of the policy issues facing the sector. After attending one of MEETI's courses, participants should be able to make a meaningful contribution towards policy management and implementation in their sector.
Series of courses on "Opportunities" are being delivered to assist entrepreneurs to identify and exploit new business ventures in the minerals and energy sectors, thereby creating employment and contributing to the economic development of the country.

Learning Outcomes
MEETI Courses focus on developing the following competencies:
- An understanding of the different aspects of energy, minerals and mining or environmental policy in order to activelyinfluence policy management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- The development of a holistic view of the minerals and energy sectors.
- The ability to identify problems and propose solutions in the management of the minerals and energy sectors.
- An understanding of the institutional dynamics and governance structures of the sectors.
- A general understanding of the consultative process of policy formulation.

Teaching Methodology
|
Specialists are drawn from different parts of the minerals, energy and environment sectors in order to share their expertise and knowledge of various policy issues. Learning methods such as real-life case studies, simulation exercises and presentations are used to:
- Enable course participants to contribute actively by injecting their own practical know-how into the learning process and to exchange knowledge and experience with other students and facilitators
- Assist participants in identifying their own learning needs and pursue opportunities to strengthen their development
- Ensure the application of the knowledge and skills gained from the courses to the everyday working experience of the participants.
Classroom instruction is supplemented by recommended reading to encourage self-study and continuous learning.

Certificate Programmes
MEETI offers certificate programmes in energy policy, minerals and mining policy, and petroleum policy and economics. Each course takes place over 3 weeks and participants attend 3 blocks of 1 week at a time. Participants must pass assignments and an examination in order to receive a certificate of competence at the end of the course. Certificate programmes are aimed at junior and middle-level managers who wish to gain a broad overview of the policy and economic issues affecting the minerals or energy sectors of South Africa.

Management Programmes
|
Short management courses are offered on various aspects energy and minerals policy and industry and environmental management. The duration of the courses ranges from 2 to 5 days and participants receive a certificate of attendance on completion. These programmes are aimed at middle and senior level managers who some background in the minerals and energy sectors and who wish to further enhance their understanding of policy implementation in the energy and mining industry.

Accreditation
MEETI training programmes are accredited and certified by the University of the Witwatersrand, Graduate School of Public and Development Management, and through the university, they are accredited with the Council for higher education. MEETI is being accredited by the Mining Qualifications Authority.

SADC Courses
|
The courses form part of the SADC-supported regional training programme in Rural Energy Planning and Environmental Management. The programme is sponsored by the Royal Netherlands Governent. Courses on the other topics within this SADC programme are being implemented by the Mananga Management Institute in Swaziland, University of Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique and ESAMI in Tanzania.

Cost
Certificate courses cost R13 200.00 (Incl. VAT). Management courses cost R7 125.00 except otherwise noted. Fees include all course materials, refreshments and lunches during the course, and parking. Accomodation and transport to the venue are not included.
A cancellation Fee of 50% of the total course fee applies to applicants who cancel their registration less than 7 days before the course begins, and 100% to applicants who fail to register on the first day of the course.
